Strategy Team

Those who do not understand the big picture are not in a position to make sound decisions. The members of the Flossbach von Storch AG Strategy Team meet in Cologne regularly. Aside from the daily business, our board members, portfolio managers, capital market strategists and analysts discuss the key issues affecting the capital markets. These are central developments which shape the stock market in the long term. This team is responsible for our investment strategy:


Bert Flossbach

Dr Bert Flossbach has been a Board Member and Senior Portfolio Manager at Flossbach von Storch AG since 1998.

He was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs and Co. oHG Frankfurt from 1991 – 1998, where he managed German and international assets.

He was responsible for private and institutional investors at Matuschka Gruppe Munich from1988 – 1991.

His doctoral thesis on private wealth portfolio management concepts was completed at the University of Innsbruck (1990–1992).

He holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Cologne (1982–1987).

Kurt von Storch

Kurt von Storch co-founded Flossbach von Storch in 1998 and has been a Board Member ever since. He is responsible for private wealth management.

Mr von Storch was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs & Co. in Frankfurt from 1992 to 1998.

Prior to this, he worked as a Fund Manager for European equities at Julius Baer in Frankfurt between 1991 and 1992. He started his career at Julius Baer in 1987 as a Securities Trader and Portfolio Manager in New York.

Kurt von Storch graduated from the University of Cologne with a degree in Business Management.

Philipp Vorndran

Philipp Vorndran has worked as a Capital Market Strategist at Flossbach von Storch since 2009.

Previously, he was Global Chief Strategist at Credit Suisse Asset Management and Chief Executive Officer at Credit Suisse Asset Management Germany.

He began his career at Julius Bär, where he headed the derivatives division, amongst other things. Philipp Vorndran studied Business Administration at the University of Würzburg, where he later worked as a research associate with Prof. Ekkehard Wenger.

Prof Dr Thomas Mayer is the Founding Director of the Flossbach von Storch Research Institute.  

Prior to this he was Chief Economist at Deutsche Bank Group and Head of Deutsche Bank Research.

Thomas Mayer has held positions at Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers and before entering the private sector, at the International Monetary Fund and the Kiel Institute.

Thomas Mayer completed a doctorate in Economics from Kiel University in 1982.

Since 2003 he has been a CFA Charter Holder and since 2015 he has been an Honorary Professor at the University of Witten-Herdecke.

Thomas Lehr

Thomas Lehr has worked as a Capital Market Strategist at Flossbach von Storch since the start of 2017. 

From 2001 to 2014 he worked for the Credit Suisse group. Thomas Lehr initially worked as an Investment Consultant and Investment Strategist for Credit Suisse’s investment strategy in Germany. He later moved to Zurich, and starting in 2008, he was a member of the global asset allocation committee and jointly responsible for the international investment strategy and its communication.

From 2014 to 2016, Thomas Lehr had a similar role at Berenberg Bank AG (Switzerland) as well as at Deka Investment.

Thomas Lehr completed his bank traineeship in the German cooperative banking sector, where he subsequently worked for several years as an investment adviser.

Sven Brouwers

Sven Brouwers has been Head of Portfolio Management at Flossbach von Storch since 2016. Prior to this from 2007, he was Senior Portfolio Manager at Flossbach von Storch.

From 2001 – 2007 he supported and managed equity mandates for institutional clients at Bankhaus Lampe KG, Düsseldorf. From 1999 – 2001, he worked as an Equity Analyst also at Bankhaus Lampe KG, Düsseldorf.

From 1996 – 1999 he was responsible for corporate client business at Deutsche Bank AG in Düsseldorf.

Sven Brouwers holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Saarland (1991 – 1996).

Tobias Schafföner

Tobias Schafföner has been an investment analyst in the multiasset team at Flossbach von Storch since 2012.

He is responsible for macroeconomic analyses as well as formulating and implementing the investment strategy into the Flossbach von Storch multi-asset funds, including the Multiple Opportunities fund.

Mr Schafföner holds a Master of Economics from the University of Cologne.

He is currently completing a PhD in Political Economics at the University of Bremen.
